Biography

Jacob Banks (born 24 July 1991) is a Nigerian-born English singer and songwriter from Birmingham, known for his soul, R&B, and hip hop influences.

He gained attention after winning the 2012 MOBO UnSung regional competition in Birmingham and the Adidas "Are You In" music competition. Banks' debut EP The Monologue was released in January 2013, followed by "Worthy," which received significant radio play.

Banks continued his rise by supporting major artists like Emeli Sandé and Wretch 32 and collaborating with acts such as Chase & Status and All About She. In 2014, his collaboration "I Can't Wait" with All About She was released. He also worked with other notable artists like Bondax and Plan B. His second EP The Paradox was released in 2015, featuring the track "Monster" with rapper Avelino.

In 2016, Banks' single "What Do You Love" with Seeb reached number 2 on Norway's VG-lista chart. He released the two-part narrative video for "Unholy War" in 2017, followed by his album Village in 2018, which reached No. 1 on Spotify's upcoming albums chart. His music has been featured in popular TV shows like Suits, Power, and Lucifer, gaining widespread exposure.

His song "Unknown" appeared in multiple shows, including Quantico and Power Book 2: Ghost, while his track "Unholy War" was featured in Need for Speed: Payback and Black Lightning. Banks also contributed the song "In the Name of Love" to The Equalizer 2 soundtrack.
