Biography

Sam Smith, born May 19, 1992, is an English singer and songwriter. They showed an early talent for singing and began lessons at age eight.

Early collaborations with Disclosure and Naughty Boy brought them into the public eye. Smith came out as gay shortly before the release of their debut album, In the Lonely Hour (2014), which earned them four Grammy Awards in 2015, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for "Stay With Me."

In 2017, Smith came out as non-binary and later announced their pronouns as they/them. Their second album, The Thrill of It All (2017), also achieved chart-topping success, featuring the hit single "Too Good at Goodbyes." Smith's third album, Love Goes, was released in 2020.

In 2022, their single "Unholy," a collaboration with Kim Petras, marked a new artistic direction and earned them a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Their fourth album, Gloria, was released in 2023.

In 2024, they celebrated the tenth anniversary of their debut album with a special performance at the BBC Proms.
