Biography
CMAT, born Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson on February 23, 1996, is an Irish singer-songwriter. Her debut album, If My Wife Knew I’d Be Dead, topped the Irish Albums Chart in 2022.
Born in Dublin, CMAT moved with her family to County Meath. She later studied at Trinity College Dublin but left to pursue music in Denmark and Manchester. After ending a toxic relationship, she returned to Ireland to focus on her career.
Her 2022 debut album received widespread acclaim, with If My Wife Knew I’d Be Dead reaching number one in Ireland. The album won the 2023 Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of the Year. Her second album, Crazymad, for Me, released in 2023, also hit number one.
CMAT is known for her large LGBTQ+ fanbase, often saying her music is for “the girls and the gays.” She is also recognized for her bold, unapologetic approach to music and life, which resonates with her fans.
In 2024, CMAT's rise continued with nominations for major awards, including the Ivor Novello Award. Her dedication to both her music and the LGBTQ+ community keeps her at the forefront of Irish pop culture.
