Biography

Matthew Charles Crockett (born March 24, 1984) is an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter blending blues, country, and Americana.

Since 2015, he has released 15 studio albums, with Lil G.L.'s Blue Bonanza hitting No. 11 on the Billboard Blues chart in 2018 and The Man from Waco and $10 Cowboy entering the Billboard 200 in 2022 and 2024.

In 2023, Crockett was nominated for Artist, Album, and Song of the Year at the Americana Music Honors & Awards. His career reached a new milestone in 2025 with a Grammy nomination for $10 Cowboy.

Born in San Benito, Texas, Crockett was raised by a single mother in Los Fresnos and later moved to Dallas. He learned guitar as a teenager and busked in New Orleans and New York, eventually forming a street band. A brief management deal with Sony followed, though he later returned to Texas, balancing music with odd jobs.

His breakthrough came in 2015 with A Stolen Jewel, which won Best Blues Act at the Dallas Observer Music Awards. Subsequent albums, like In The Night (2016) and Lonesome as a Shadow (2018), showcased his evolving sound. His Lil G.L. series paid tribute to classic country and blues influences.

Crockett’s 2020 album Welcome to Hard Times gained critical acclaim, leading to Music City USA (2021) and The Man from Waco (2022). In 2025, he signed with Island Records, releasing Lonesome Drifter, co-produced with Shooter Jennings. His fusion of vintage and modern styles continues to earn widespread recognition.
