Biography

Micheal Ray Stevenson, known professionally as Tyga, is an American rapper born on November 19, 1989, in Compton, California.

He signed with Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment in 2008 and gained fame with his debut major label album, Careless World: Rise of the Last King (2012), which was certified platinum and featured hits like "Rack City" and "Faded."

Tyga’s career saw ups and downs, with Hotel California (2013) and Fan of a Fan (2015) receiving mixed responses. His fourth album, The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty (2015), was released independently after conflicts with Young Money, but it underperformed. The albums BitchImTheShit2 (2017) and Kyoto (2018) also failed to make a significant impact.

However, in 2018, Tyga experienced a resurgence with his hit single "Taste" featuring Offset, which became his first top 40 single in years and was later certified diamond. This success led to the release of his seventh album, Legendary (2019).

Born to Jamaican and Vietnamese parents, Tyga grew up in Compton before moving to Gardena. While he has been open about his challenging background, there was controversy in 2012 over his claims about his upbringing, which he later dismissed as part of scripted TV.
