Biography
Tiwa Savage (born 5 February 1980) is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress known for her fusion of afrobeats, R&B, and pop. She sings in English, Pidgin, and Yoruba.
Born in Isale Eko, she moved to London at 11 and later worked as a backup vocalist for George Michael and Mary J. Blige. After The X Factor UK, she studied at Berklee College and signed with Sony/ATV in 2009.
In 2012, she returned to Nigeria, joining Mavin Records and appearing on their compilation Solar Plexus. Her 2013 debut album Once Upon a Time produced several hits and award nominations.
Savage gained further success with R.E.D (2015) and Sugarcane (2017), followed by her historic win as Best African Act at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2019, she joined Universal Music Group.
Her later projects, including Celia (2020) and Water & Garri (2021), expanded her global reach. In 2022, she launched the Water & Garri North American Tour, solidifying her international presence.
