Biography
Pulp are a British rock band from Sheffield whose sharp wit and cultural storytelling made them key players in the 1990s Britpop movement.
Formed in 1978 by Jarvis Cocker, Pulp spent over a decade in obscurity before breaking through in the mid-'90s. Their 1994 album His 'n' Hers earned a Mercury Prize nomination and paved the way for their landmark release Different Class (1995), which topped UK charts and won the Mercury Prize. The album featured hits like “Common People” and “Sorted for E’s & Wizz,” cementing their legacy.
Pulp’s 1998 follow-up This Is Hardcore also debuted at number one and received critical acclaim for its darker themes. Known for their theatrical live shows, they headlined Glastonbury Festival twice and stood alongside Oasis, Blur, and Suede as Britpop icons.
After their 2001 album We Love Life, the band went on hiatus. A 2011 reunion brought them back to major festivals, and in 2013, they released the single “After You,” their first new track in over a decade.
The band reunited again in 2022 for a new tour, reaffirming their place as one of Britain’s most distinctive and beloved alt-rock acts.
