Biography

Green Day is a legendary American punk rock band known for their raw energy and anthems like “American Idiot” and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.”

Formed in 1987 by Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt, with Tré Cool joining in 1990, the band broke into the mainstream with their 1994 album Dookie, selling over 20 million copies. Green Day helped bring punk back into the spotlight, alongside other California acts like The Offspring and Rancid.

After early success with indie label Lookout! Records, Green Day signed to Reprise, releasing a string of influential albums including Insomniac, Nimrod, and Warning. Their 2004 rock opera American Idiot became a cultural phenomenon and was later adapted into a Tony-winning Broadway musical.

They followed up with 21st Century Breakdown (2009), the ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! trilogy (2012), and albums like Revolution Radio (2016), Father of All… (2020), and Saviors (2024). Despite ups and downs, they’ve remained a vital force in modern rock.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, Green Day has sold 75 million records and won five Grammy Awards. Side projects like Foxboro Hot Tubs and solo work reflect the band's restless creativity.
