Biography

Akon is a Senegalese-American singer, songwriter, rapper, and producer who rose to fame with his 2004 hit Locked Up. His debut album, Trouble, introduced his signature blend of hip-hop and R&B, followed by the chart-topping single Lonely.

His second album, Konvicted (2006), earned a Grammy nomination and produced hits like Smack That (featuring Eminem) and I Wanna Love You (featuring Snoop Dogg), making him the first solo artist to hold the top two spots on the Billboard Hot 100 twice. His third album, Freedom (2008), featured the hit Right Now (Na Na Na), while his later projects explored Latin and Afrobeats.

Beyond his music, Akon founded Konvict Muzik and KonLive Distribution, helping launch the careers of Lady Gaga, T-Pain, and others. He has collaborated with icons like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Lionel Richie.

Akon is also a philanthropist, launching Akon Lighting Africa in 2014 and developing a futuristic city in Senegal. Recognized by Forbes and Guinness World Records, he remains a powerful figure in music and business.
